Malaria - a parasitic bacteria infection.

Malaria has been around for a very long time. It is commonly passed through insect bites. The biting insects live such short lives that it can't be determined if they are immune or not. But people whom are bit suffer the effects for the rest of their lives. In an attempt to lessen the severity of Malaria, several medications have been developed and used. Being a bacteria, it grows and replicates and mutates almost at will. It's better to never get this bacteria infection because the drugs to treat it have such profound permanent side effects. And what of the people who are inoculated against the infection but never get the infection? The jury is still out.
