Auto Industry tariffs
We didn't ask for this war. Things were going very smooth Canada made cars and trucks and the USA bought 90%
of our stock with Canada using 10%. The USA made cars and trucks of different models and we bought from
them. In the production we had shops making specialized parts needed by both industries on both sides of the border
and they had specialized shops doing the same. It all changed January 20th 2025 the world got Trump as the US
President. He wants everything made in the USA but he has forgot too many things that make this a no win
for everyone:
1. It will cost big money for the plants to move
2. The skilled workers that are up here would take years to train using Americans
3. We have the resources, he doesn't that's why much of the facilities dealing with Steel, Aluminum, parts making
are done here.
4. The US has a big advantage leaving the work here because our currency is much below that in the US.
Canada has 1/10th the population of the USA so we buy what we need from him but his Industries and people need
more from us in resources and product so he has to buy more than we buy. He claims that is ripping him off.
Oh those poor penguins on that Island Tariffed 400% because they don't buy American
The Auto makers in the USA know the market can't withstand vehicle prices jumping by thousands of dollars
so they shut down and face total ruin on both sides of the border. So Companies don't make money,
Employee's don't earn a living on either side. Product stock dwindles so those still working have less choice
and Trump gains nothing from it.
Toyota and Honda plants from news summaries don't use anything from the US so they are fine and can capitalise
on Canadian purchases. But Trump plays a hand there too. With markets uncertain Honda is pausing building
EV models here and also building a battery plant here.
VolksWagon was primed to build here too but it is paused.
There is big hope but almost two years away. The republicans are worried about their future. If public
opinion keeps going down on the senators, govoners, congress as much as it is slipping for the President
a new President may be needed and thus an Election which Trump can not be in contension for. Yeah!
In the mean time PM Carney and his team will work hard to get these illegal tariffs removed not just lowered.
While this is going on he will support the businesses affected by the tariffs, and the workers displaced.
Talks with the 3 big auto maker plants might be in order to maybe out fit them to make Canadian EV's
